Description
The 2021–2023 MT-09 shares the same forward-sloping seat as the rest of Yamaha’s CP3 lineup. On a long day that slope quietly slides you into the tank, and you spend the ride pushing yourself back instead of settling in. This kit levels it out.
It’s a set of precision shims that raise the front of the seat frame, plus offset tank grommets that let the bracket move up without changing how your bike looks. Every fastener is included, nothing is cut or drilled, and the whole job is reversible with hand tools. This kit went through more than two years of testing with the MT-09 community before it came to market.
Fits
- Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09 SP — 2021, 2022, and 2023 (Gen 3)
- OEM stock front seat and the Yamaha Comfort seat
- Works with the seat in either the factory low or high position
- Most aftermarket seats that reuse the stock Yamaha seat pan
Does not fit
- 2024+ MT-09 (Gen 4) — a later fitment issue turned up on some Gen 4 bikes, so this kit is not recommended for 2024 and newer even though it will physically mount.
- Tracer 9 / GT / GT+ — different frame. Get the Tracer 9 version here.
- 2015–2020 MT-09 / FZ-09 / Tracer 900 — earlier frame. Get the 2015–2020 version here.
Adjustable 6 + 2 mm. This is the Pro Adjustable kit. Run the 6 mm pad on its own for a moderate correction that keeps a little forward bias for spirited riding, or stack the 2 mm shim on top (6 + 2 mm) for the flattest setting and long touring days. Swapping between the two takes a few minutes with the seat off, so you can try both and keep whichever suits your riding.
Why it’s built this way
The obvious way to lift a seat is to shim the frame and call it done — but that pulls the rear of the fuel tank out of alignment. Instead of asking you to live with that, this kit includes offset tank grommets that let the bracket move up while changing the tank’s rear height by only 3–4 mm. It’s small enough that the bike still looks stock.
Those grommets are printed in TPU rubber rather than rigid plastic, because the factory bushings are there to isolate vibration. Your stock spacers and washers slide into them exactly like the originals, so the tank stays isolated the way Yamaha intended.
- Frame shims — industrial-grade carbon-fiber PA12 nylon. High temperature, high strength, chemically resistant.
- Tank grommets — high-temperature Easton 85A TPU rubber, matched to the stock bushing feel.
- Hardware — Class 10.9 zinc-plated alloy steel bolts, not hardware-store fasteners.

- 4 × 6 mm standard washers (for the top of the seat bracket)
Installing it
No drilling, no cutting, and fully reversible using the bike’s original hardware.
- 4 mm hex wrench
- 10 mm socket or wrench (Gen 3 bikes)
- Blue threadlocker
- Torque wrench — 12 Nm for the main seat bolts, 7 Nm for the fuel tank bolts
