Description
Ever have the deep fear of losing your keyless fob while on a trip, in the middle of a BDR, or just in the house somewhere and you need to go? Do you always know where your backup RFID based plastic BMW key is? Is it with you? Was it on the same key chain as your now missing key fob??
After years of traveling solo around the country I started hiding my backup keys on the bike where I can access them without keys in the case I break a key, lose it, etc… To do this and keep it somewhat stealthy and protected I created small cases for the key to protect them but also make them blend in on the bike hidden behind some bodywork, frame, etc…
I created this small sliding box that perfectly fits the BMW plastic backup key that can be affixed via Velcro anywhere you want on the bike (or inside combination locked cases, etc…) So you always know when you are out, the “get out of jail free” card is with you. There is a slot to place a 2mm zip tie to secure the case closed, or use a wire tie so you can open it easily without tools when needed.
What it is:
- A small 25x60mm 2 part sliding box made out of Black high temperature and weather resistant ASA (so it can be placed near warmer parts of the bike, or exposed to sun)
- Discrete design that can blend in
- 2x 1×1″ industrial strength Velcro squares pre-applied.
What does it fit?
- Any 2014+ BMW Motorcycle with Keyless ignition that uses the standard plastic BMW RFID backup key.
How do I use it?
- Slide the BMW key into the case slot
- Slide the cover over the top and secure it with a wire tie or zip tie through the slot (this is critical to ensure the box remains closed. Ziptie is the most secure, but you need to be sure you have a way to get that ziptie cut when you need the key. I use wire ties as pictured)
- Place the Velcro on the back (if its not already shipped with it attached)
- Find a discrete/hard to find or see place where you will know to go to get the key but will not be obvious to others, out of sight, and a place that doesn’t get hit with rocks, dirt, mud, or right next to extremely hot parts of the bike.
- Clean that place with an alcohol wipe or soap and water to make sure its dry and clean- if the area isn’t clean the Velcro may fall away.
- Remove the backing on the motorcycle side of the Velcro and press the box into place and hold it with pressure for 15-30 seconds. (that sets the adhesive)
- When you need to retrieve the key, carefully and deliberately pull the box off the Velcro (Industrial Velcro is… very strong), open the case, and then follow the instructions for your bike to use the RFID key to start the motorcycle.
